Diversity Investment Group Minutes of the Meeting April 7, 1999 In attendance: Russ Douglas, Roger Drury, Holly Deveny, Randy Wilbur, Tom Saunders, Andy Bain, Mike Wall, Gary Kaupman, David Brodeur, David Robinson, Larry Corse, Todd Fibus, Ron Kozak Guests: Peter Carnell, Steve Shockley, David Jones Absent: John Brock, Dan Bohlman (Tom advised that checks were received from all members.) David B. discussed importing data into SSG software. Minutes from last month’s meetings were accepted from everyone. David B. requested reimbursement for club membership in NAIC and was approved. Tom reviewed our financial holdings. Gary discussed our Diversity Worksheet. Holly provided a comparison of the two-year holdings between DIG and the other investment club of which she a member. Steve Shockley gave a presentation on the construction industry (for membership consideration). This was his third visit. Steve voted in as a new member. David B. announced that he is teaching a class on "The SSG on Paper" at his house: April 21st, 7:30 PM. Roger/VP Corner: Introduced presentations for the evening: (Andy, Larry, Gary and Holly). Next month's volunteers: Gary: Eldercare Tom: An insurance Co. Randy: Something from Better Investing. Larry gave a presentation on Mattel (MAT): Remaking themselves into a "global children's product co." Introducing interactive CD ROM. Current price of $24.66 in the BUY ZONE. BUY up to $25.05. Recommendation: NOT BUY until we know more specifics about where they are going. Larry will continue to monitor and provide updates. Holly gave pres. on Equifax. Buy up to $39.80 Current price: $34.70 They have taken on debt recently and price is down. Analysts like this stock. Has a reasonable DRIP program. Issues to check on: Sales drop in 1997; Debt of $800M in 1998 but NIL in 1999; Social goals; Competitors. Gary and Andy gave comparison of Timberland, Wolverine and Kenneth Cole. Timberland…a lot of insider holdings (by family that owns it). Wolverine, not as much. Wolverine…Great as value stock. Gary recommended a review of their annual report. Question: Timberland in 1995? What happened? Timberland: Current price of $60.00 in BUY ZONE. Buy up to $61.80. Wolverine: Current price of $12.06 in BUY ZONE. Buy up to $18.18 (Andy) or $14.41 (Gary). David B.: We will need another $500.00 for next month to pay off resigning members. Holly and David B. reviewed IONICS: EPS going down. Flat earnings. No debt. Competition with US Filter, though the latter has been bought out by a French conglomerate. Holly: Current price of $31.63 in the HOLD ZONE. BUY up to $28.03. Or, David B.: BUY up to $33.33. David B. reviewed ANDREW: Lost 12.5%. Value Line: "Be patient and hold on." Aggressively buying stock back. Having sales problems. Very low debt. Ranked above competition. Current price of $12.62 in the BUY zone. BUY up to $22.45. Not for short-term growth. Great for long term. Andy and Gary reviewed ADOBE: No debt. Continuing to come out with upgrades. Good 3 to 5 year potential. Gary reviewed AUTOZONE: Struggling with acquisition of several stores. Debt has recently ballooned Current price of $31.50 near the BUY ZONE. BUY up to $35.10.
